Making Waves in Aquaculture

Stingray Marine Solutions AS is a Norwegian technology company transforming aquaculture through advanced underwater systems for automatic salmon lice control. Using high-resolution cameras, precision lasers, and AI, Stingray removes lice without chemicals or mechanical handling, improving fish welfare and promoting sustainability.

“Our technology removes lice without chemicals or mechanical handling, improving fish welfare and reducing mortality,” says Tobias Bock, Purchasing Coordinator at Stingray Marine Solutions.

In 2023, Stingray faced a major challenge: building a new node production factory in Groruddalen, Oslo. The facility would feature AutoStore™, delivered by Element Logic®, and managed through eManager, an AutoStore control system. To make this work, Stingray needed a warehouse management system that could integrate seamlessly with AutoStore and their inhouse-built ERP system.

The Turning Point: Choosing Ongoing WMS

“We were looking for proven and well-functioning solutions from which we could draw inspiration and experience,” Tobias explains. After a reference visit to an existing customer of Ongoing where Ongoing WMS was successfully integrated with eManager, the choice became clear. “We saw the system in practice, and it became clear that Ongoing was a solution that suited our needs. This formed the basis for our collaboration.”

Today, Ongoing WMS acts as the backbone of Stingray’s warehouse management, linking their ERP and eManager to ensure smooth coordination between warehouse and production. “Ongoing functions as the core of our warehouse management system and reflects our planned production, inventory, and purchasing. Ongoing is the link between the ERP system and eManager, which handles what goes in and out of AutoStore," Tobias says. It’s used daily by the logistics department for allocating goods, picking, and coordinating the flow of goods between the warehouse and production.”

A New Era of Control and Collaboration

The implementation of Ongoing WMS marked a turning point for Stingray. “Ongoing WMS was a central part of the leap Stingray took when we built our new factory in 2023. With the new warehouse and production system, where Ongoing plays an important role, Stingray has entered a new era of control and efficiency,” Tobias emphasizes.

The collaboration with Ongoing has been equally important. “From a logistics and purchasing perspective, we’ve had a personal software engineer who has been available, solution-oriented, and proactive in follow-up. He helped find good solutions and make necessary adjustments after the startup," he says. "Stingray’s own software department has several times carried out small projects related to special needs together with Ongoing, and these have been executed efficiently, well, and cost-effectively.”

Onboarding and Beyond

Onboarding was smooth and fast. “We were quickly introduced to the functions we wanted to master, and any issues were resolved promptly,” Tobias notes. Even though Stingray does not use every feature Ongoing offers, the system fully meets their needs. “Although we do not utilize 100% of Ongoing’s full potential, we do not see this as a problem or feel that it makes our processes inefficient,” Tobias concludes.
