Logisticompany AB uses Ongoing WMS to streamline health care logistics

Logisticompany AB is an independent alternative for transport in Helsingborg, Sweden, who also offers 3PL services. When one of their customers, trading medical and pharmaceutical products, wanted to expand their contract, Logisticompany AB decided to implement the customer in their new warehouse management system, Ongoing WMS.

As is often the case for healthcare products, the different suppliers labelled the goods with different barcode standards, either HIBC or GS1. HIBC is an American standard for medical and pharmaceutical products whereas GS1 is a non-profit association that has developed standards for labelling goods e.g. GTIN. Both contains a unique identifier for the goods together with other information such as batch number, expiry date or quantity. Though an increasing number of companies are replacing HIBC with GS1, HIBC are still commonly used, primarily in USA. This can be problematic for logistics provers, which have to deal with barcodes that need to be decoded in different ways.

Logisticompany AB, having a high focus on user friendly warehouse processes, wanted to be able to handle both barcodes the same way, reducing the need for warehouse workers to know what type of barcode they were dealing with. “To be successful as a logistic company, you need to have software to make the working processes easy for everyone working in the warehouse” says Logisticompany's Partner and Sales Manager Peter Forsberg. Together with their WMS supplier, Ongoing Warehouse, they started a project to build a scanning module that could handle multiple barcode standards without the user identifying the barcode type.

Johan Härdmark, account manager for Logisticompany AB at Ongoing Warehouse, says the solution has a wider usage than scanning multiple barcodes. In many cases, the problem might not only be the usage of multiple barcode standards on different products, but that the labels do not follow the standard in full. “For example, the serial number might be labelled as a batch-number which results in storing data in the wrong field in the WMS which in turn makes features not to working as intended” Johan explains. With the new scanning several ways to decode a barcode can be set up, together with validations of the data. Once a barcode is scanned, Ongoing WMS will try to decode the barcode according to the schemas set up.  When put in use, the new scanning did not only make the process in the warehouse easier for the warehouse staff but also speeded up the inbound and outbound processes and resulted in better control of the goods.

Logisticompany AB, valuing a close relationship with their own customers, has appreciated that the development has been in close cooperation with Ongoing Warehouse “We have become a great team, which is one of the success factors.” Peter says.

Dear Sam img

Online store Dear Sam selects Ongoing WMS in order to manage their warehouse operations effectively

Readymade integrations and public API’s make it possible to quickly integrate with Ongoing WMS.

”Ongoing WMS has published their well-documented API’s on their website. This enables us to easily integrate systems we use with Ongoing WMS”, says Anders Ekelund, Founder & CTO at Dear Sam.

Dear Sam runs an online store where they sell various photographs and prints in form of posters and frames. The company was established in year 2017 and has grown with a rapid pace since then. Dear Sam was previously outsourcing their warehouse operations to a 3PL but is now managing their own warehouse. They started using Ongoing WMS a little over two months ago.

”It is great that Dear Sam uses our API’s to make integrations to Ongoing WMS, combined with using our documentation site to set up our readymade integrations. We have focused a lot on making our readymade integrations easy to set up. Our customer can easily do this themselves by following the guides on our documentation site, just like Dear Sam has done”, says Fredrik Einarsson, CEO Ongoing Warehouse.

Ongoing Warehouse has a wide range of readymade integrations to the most used adjoining systems which make it easy to set up an integration. For further adjustments Ongoing Warehouse assigns a personal software developer to support each customer. David at Ongoing Warehouse is helping Dear Sam to set up Ongoing WMS the way they want it.

“Ongoing WMS has readymade integrations which made it easy for me to set up the integrations. For example, there were existing integration to both our transport- and ERP-system, which I set up by using the guides on Ongoing Warehouse’s documentation site. Thereafter, David helped us setting up Ongoing WMS to fit our warehouse operations. It is always easy to get trough to David and we get competent support”, continues Anders Ekelund.

”We think it’s important to offer our customers a great experience that includes fast deliveries among other things. To manage this, we needed effective warehouse operations and Ongoing WMS was a big part of the solution. The system has made warehouse processes more effective. For example, the picking batch feature in Ongoing WMS makes the picking process highly effective”, Says Raymond Halvorsen, Administration Manager at Dressmykid.no.

Dressmykid.no is a fast-growing online business that manages its own warehouse located in Sandefjord, Norway. The company was established in the year 2014 and specializes in selling children’s clothes as well as toys on their web shop. The company began using Ongoing WMS about 2 months ago.

”Ongoing WMS will make it possible for Dressmykid.no to handle their warehouse with great precision and speed. It´s nice to see that more online shops like Dressmykid.no are beginning to acknowledge the benefits of using Ongoing WMS”, says Fredrik Einarsson, CEO Ongoing Warehouse.

”Ongoing WMS surpassed our expectations when implementing the system. Since Ongoing WMS is web-based with readymade integrations to other systems that we already use, we could start using the service right away. Ongoing WMS has made our warehouse operations efficient and given us a detailed overview of our warehouse with about 1500 pallet locations”, Says Alexander Adstedt at Medea Medical.

Medea AB is one of the fastest growing suppliers of medical equipment to state and private care units. They have over 80 municipalities and 12 regions as customers. Medea AB is a supplier as well as a logistics provider and started using Ongoing WMS two months ago.

Danish ERP Tracezilla integrates with Ongoing WMS

Tracezilla, Danish ERP-system for food companies integrates with Ongoing WMS. The integration makes the warehouse operations more effective and traceable when outsourcing to a 3PL, as well as when choosing to handle your own warehousing.

Tracezilla makes food trading & production simple, efficient and transparent, as well as ensuring traceability of food products down the supply chain. Tracezilla provides features like forecasting, production cost- & order management, and takes expiration date, batch number, etc. into account in all processes.

The Integration between Tracezilla and Ongoing WMS allows for information to be exchanged directly between the two systems including information about which lots to pick or lots that have been picked.

"Our customers are food companies. They must ensure traceability of their inventory - even if it is in a third-party warehouse. With the integration to Ongoing WMS, our users can benefit from the full potential of the traceability features in tracezilla", says Rasmus Steen Kristensen, CPO, tracezilla ApS.

One company that uses Tracezilla and has benefited from the integration between Ongoing WMS and tracezilla is Rawfood. Rawfood outsources their warehouse operations to a Danish 3PL, Blue Water Shipping, which uses Ongoing WMS.

"The integration between Tracezilla and Ongoing WMS at Blue Water Shipping works fantastic. With the previous WMS and it´s integration, we had to copy-paste batch numbers and expiration dates, and we often had discrepancies in our stock takings. Now, with the new integration between Tracezilla and Ongoing WMS, data just flows, and the inventories are always up to date", says Søren Wolff, CEO, Rawfood.dk.

The new integration is an important step in building an ecosystem of integrated systems adjoining Ongoing WMS. To succeed with this strategy, Ongoing Warehouse has focused on building up its REST, SOAP and automation API.

“The integration to Ongoing WMS was made seamlessly and efficiently. We used their REST-API, which is easy to follow and connect to”, continues Rasmus Steen Kristensen.

Fredrik Einarsson, CEO at Ongoing Warehouse points out that the integration is important to strengthen the market position in Denmark.

“This integration strengthens our position in Denmark, which is an important market for us. We have integrations to the most used web shops, ERP- and Transport systems in Denmark and now we add another interesting system to our ecosystem. The integration works great for food companies that have their own warehouse or choose to outsource to 3PL that uses Ongoing WMS”, says Fredrik Einarsson.
